Private hire knowledge test after a one-day training course. The UK's largest licensing authority for private hire vehicles outside London.
A one-day training course (about 6 hours) followed by a written multiple-choice test. Both are run by Worcestershire County Council on Wolverhampton's behalf.

How to take the test
- Book the Private Hire Driver Training and Assessment course through Worcestershire County Council's booking site.
- Attend the one-day course with your photocard driving licence, proof of National Insurance number and booking email.
- Sit the 28-question multiple-choice test at the end of the day. It's in English only, with no translation.
- Pass within 3 attempts, then apply for your licence within 12 months.
What the test covers
- Plying for hire: Pre-booked only, touting, ranks and who you can work for.
- Safeguarding: Children, vulnerable adults, CSE and county lines.
- Disability awareness: Equality Act 2010, assistance dogs and mobility help.
- Licence conditions: Notifications, badges, DBS and timescales.
- Vehicle conditions: Plates, signage, insurance, accidents and alterations.
- Conduct & customer care: Behaviour, dress, routes, luggage and lost property.
- Road & passenger safety: Walkaround checks, seatbelts, child seats and drop-offs.
- Law & wider safety: Health Act, EPA, GDPR, modern slavery, terrorism and suicide awareness.
What you need for your licence
- Enhanced DBS for 'Other Workforce (Taxi/Private Hire) Driver' through TaxiPlus, and the DBS Update Service
- DVLA Group 2 medical
- Proof of your right to work in the UK
- DVLA licence check code
- HMRC tax check code
- No practical driving test for private hire
On the day
- Your original photocard driving licence
- Proof of your National Insurance number (a letter from HMRC or DWP, not just the number)
- A copy of your booking email for the trainer to check
- Allow a full day: the course lasts about 6 hours with the test at the end
- Everything is in English only; no translators allowed
- Arrive early; late arrivals may be turned away and lose the fee
